HP D2600 disk enclosures are one option of two models within the D2000 disk enclosure series. The main difference between these two options is their form factor and the number of drive bays they support. The HP D2600 is the Large Form Factor (LFF) option, and offers 12 3.5 inch drive bays that support either 12 Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or 12 Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) disk drives.  This allows HP D2600 disk enclosures to offer a maximum storage capacity of either 60 Terabytes (TB) when using SAS drives or 192TB when using SATA drives. Either way, the HP D2600 offers other performance capabilities not contingent on the drive type which include a host interface of 6 Gigabits per second (Gb/s), as well as support for a wide range of operating systems (OS) including Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, HP-UX and more.

The HP D2600 disk enclosure, designated by part number AJ940A, is primarily used by enterprise IT environments running HP ProLiant servers that are looking to expand their storage capacity by means of an external storage solution, and yet do not want to fully commit themselves to a Storage Area Network (SAN) or Network Attached Storage (NAS). The HP D2600 is the perfect compromise for these environments because it is a Direct Attached Storage (DAS) that connects to HP ProLiant servers via an HP Smart Array controller such as a P411, P212 or P812. As a result of the way the HP D2600 operates, the client has the convenience and commitment-free relationship that allows them to buy the storage capacity that they need at the moment, and then simply purchase additional storage capacity whenever their data storage needs start to expand in the future.
